Mechanical and electronic control rooms have the potential to create large amounts of unwanted noise that infiltrates spaces intended to be kept quiet. This was the case with WGN-TV Studios in Chicago, which wanted to prevent the noise coming from their disruptive control room Operations Center from invading their recording studio.
That’s when Ketchum & Walton Co., teamed up with Noise Barriers to find a novel solution that would block noise from the control room with a window that had an almost entirely unobstructed view. To do this, we used a combination of a Noise Barriers QuietSwing Architectural Door (STC-51) and QuietLite Window Systems (STC-53). Both products exceeded expectations by not only eliminating noise infiltration but also by creating a more peaceful environment through improved ambient noise levels.
Following the installation, third-party research revealed that the new window tested to Noise Isolation Level (NIC) 48. Other successful tests were also performed later, which validated the system’s reliability over time.
