An NRC rating, or Noise Reduction Coefficient, is a number that represents how much sound a material can absorb. The NRC rating is measured on a scale of 0.0 to 1.0, with 0.0 being completely reflective and 1.0 meaning all sound is absorbed and not reflected back into the space. Our noise control experts will identify your space or building’s needs and find the right material to solve your problem.

In addition to the NRC rating, building materials also have an STC rating or Sound Transmission Class. This rating measures how much sound is transmitted through a material. The higher your STC rating is, the greater the noise reduction and the less sound penetrates through. We use isolators and resilient materials as tools to block noise and increase STC ratings.

A primary goal for many of our customers is improving speech intelligibility — how well a listener can understand a speaker. Schools, theaters, worship spaces, research facilities, and other shared spaces require proper acoustic treatment to ensure each room is being used for its intended purpose.

Structure-borne noise vibrations travel throughout a building’s structure, invading other spaces individuals occupy. We provide resilient vibration isolators like roof curbs and springs to separate the HVAC system from the structure and prevent noise transmission.

When most people think of noise damaging our health, they assume this involves ear damage that results in hearing loss. While consistent exposure to noise levels above 70dB may start to damage your hearing, noise pollution can also impact other areas of our health, including our hearts and minds. According to the American College of Cardiology, one study attributed 1 in 20 heart attacks in New Jersey to noise from highways, trains, and air traffic.

Further, Harvard Medicine states that researchers conclude that noise pollution may cause or exacerbate stress, mental health problems, and childhood learning delays.
