An NRC rating, or Noise Reduction Coefficient, is a number that represents how much sound a material can absorb. The NRC rating is measured on a scale of 0.0 to 1.0, with 0.0 being completely reflective and 1.0 meaning all sound is absorbed and not reflected back into the space. In addition to the NRC rating, building materials also have an STC rating or Sound Transmission Class. This rating measures how much sound is transmitted through a material.
